ASIA TRUST FUND (ATF) PROJECT

Title :  Development of the Supply and Exports of Leather

Project objective(s): The overall objectives of this project were:
1.Build the capacity of the tanneries to produce quality leather for export and to supply the
   local footwear and leathergoods industry with high standard raw materials.
2.Develop exports of finished leather and/or establish international partnerships for
   production and marketing
3.Design a sectoral trade development strategy for the tanning industry.

Major activities: For actual work under this project 12 nos of Tannery enterprises were earmarked. However the impact has created awareness amongst other tanneries as well. The project encompassed the following major activities:
  • A trade development strategy for leather sector has been developed.
  • On-the-job Training: Two international consultants, on tanning operations and leather marketing respectively, conducted the enterprise level assistance by reviewing the current processing methods, product range, current market etc.


Bangladesh Leather Service Centre (BLSC) project

Title :  "BANGLADESH LEATHER SERVICE CENTRE"
   for export development - Phase I

Executing agency :  International Trade Centre (ITC)
Period :  1st Phase (3 years 3 months) : March 2006 - June2009
   Follow-up (2 years) : July 2009 - June 2011

Project objective(s):The overall objective of the project is to increase exports of leather products, thus contributing to sustainable export diversification and consequent employment generation through trade-related capacity development. The project will encompass wide range of technical and marketing services for the leather industries.

Activities:The activities of the service centre are:
  • Professional Training at all levels (workers/operators, floor level / mid level management, top management & entrepreneurs as well).
  • Applied research
  • Quality testing and certification
  • Production (pilot test runs or short runs)/incubator of new companies
  • Marketing and Promotion
  • Information about fashion and fashion trends
  • Trade Finance
  • Consultancy
LSBPC was responsible to overview all administrative aspects of the Centre and maintain co-ordination amongst the Centre and ITC's National Project Co-ordination Office.


German Development Cooperation (GTZ) PROJECT

Title :  Market Development Support Programme for the Leather Sector
  in Particular Leathergoods Sub-sector.

Period :  July 2007 to December 2007

Project objective(s):The overall objectives of this project is building capacity of selected enterprise involved in production and export of leathergoods through technical training in design development and marketing of the products locally and internationally.

Activities:The activities of the service centre were:
  • Carryout technical on-the-job coaching and exercise for the technical staff involved in design development and production
  • Participated in an international trade fair with the set of product line including the new lines developed under the project.
  • One product catalog developed for marketing of products which using by all participant enterprises.
  • Selection, design development and production of new products in this selected enterprises.
